Reports From Arbroath
Services: Podcast, Film, and Edit
Some of the best stories in sport are often the ones you haven’t heard yet.
To a generation of West Midlands newspaper and social media devotees, the term Reports from Arbroath signified that something interesting was on the way. It could be anything - breaking news, strong opinion, honest analysis or quirky historical fact - but if it was reported from Arbroath it was worth a look. British sports journalist and author, Brian Halford curates strange and often surreal sports stories, known for their dry humour, loyal following, and distinctive voice online, but he had never ventured into audio storytelling.
Services Provided
Podcast Recording: We managed the complete technical setup for the podcast recordings, for both in studio sessions and remote recordings. As this was the client’s first experience with podcasting, we also provided on-site guidance throughout each session, helping them and the guest feel comfortable behind the mic while maintaining a consistent sound standard across all episodes.
Filming: To extend the reach of the podcast and offer more versatile content, we filmed selected episodes during recording sessions. This allowed the client to repurpose material for social media, promotional clips, and visual platforms like YouTube. We handled the multi-camera setup, lighting, and framing to ensure the visual component matched the professionalism of the audio production.
Editing: All editing was completed in-house to maintain control over the final product’s quality and tone. For audio, we focused on removing distractions, tightening pacing, and enhancing clarity. For video, we synced visuals seamlessly, added branding elements, and optimised content for multiple platforms. The result was a polished, cohesive series that reflected the client’s unique voice and style.
The first season of Reports From Arbroath was very well received. The podcast successfully captured the unique wit and character of Brian Halford’s writing style, while introducing a new format that resonated with his existing audience. With a strong foundation and growing audience in place, a second season is now in production with Orion as the production partner.
